Surface of FE-model

In: Import

The surface of any examined structure is the most often critical locality for a fatigue damage calculation. Multiaxial methods of fatigue analysis usually expect, that the plane on which the crack will emanate is in some relation to the normal line to the critical point. If the multiaxial methods have to be chosen for the fatigue analysis, the separation of surfacial nodes and determination of normal lines is necessary if the FE-model is processed. If the isolated points have to be used, nothing like this is necessary it is expected that the points are located on surface and the normal line is required for the definition of the isolated point.

The surfacial nodes are set as nodes, which lie on element faces that are not in a real contact with any other element. The normal line at the examined node is created as an average of normal lines defined for all participating elements.

The other option is to import the normal lines directly through the File Recognition dialogue.
